The wiring loom has not yet arrived, but I thought I'd fit the alternator while
I was waiting.
|
I bought a new alternator, but had trouble fitting it. The original hung down, but because of the confined space, I cannot swing it out far enough to get the water hose on. The Land Rover has the alternator at the top, but my bracket will not mount the other way up and the alternator is the wrong way round. Swapped alternators, modified the bracket... now it fits! |

The wiring loom has arrived...

Started to fit the dash wiring... This picture shows how the body was cut away to fit the dash. |
|
I would like to use the original dials from the Jag for the dash (saving myself a few quid), but they will not pass the SVA so I will ask my little brother to make up a of Walnut veneered surround, he's a good lad. The dash does not seem to meet the gearbox tunnel correctly, not sure what to do about this? Hopefully it will not notice once the carpets are fitted. |
Rear loom seems to fit OK. Shame about the fuel level sensor wire trailing all
across the boot floor!
Engine loom; not sure where the fuse box and relays should go yet, DAX say in
the cockpit or engine bay, it's up to you! I fitted dash loom and connected
it to steering column switch gear, need to replace the DAX provided connectors
with the original Ford ones one day.

Fitted brake reservoir (made bracket) and pipes to feed clutch, final fitting can take place once wiring loom is fitted. Fitted fuse box and relays. Had to recess the fibre glass behind fuse box to make it fit, lots of chain drilling! Fitted front loom to inner lip of bonnet opening and fed through bulkhead. Connected rear loom to the dash loom. |
Need to start thinking about the heater, £220 for all the bits from DAX!! Phil used a Polo heater I've found a couple in the scrap yard £10, so I'll get that and see if I can make contact with Phil.

Connected up fuel pump and negative battery lead. |
Lay in bed last night thinking of what it would be like when the engine starts
for the first time..... zzzzzzzzzzzz

Picked up the heater from the scrap yard lunch time, along with two washer bottles
off an Escort (one for me and one for my brother). Did lot's of odd jobs today,
wired in the alternator and reversing light switch, connected a few odd wires
in the dash loom and fitted some more clips to the fuel line.

The Polo heater, all I need now is a plate to go over the front with holes for the vent pipes. |
|
|
I also fitted the washer bottle to the passenger footwell, this fits so well you would think it was made for the car! |
Off on holiday next week, so I shalln't be able to play for a whole week, but I've achieved a lot this week.
