Header Tank and Battery

2nd May 2002

The header tank has been a real pain in the neck. I am trying to save some pennies by getting a second hand unit from a scrap yard but can't find one that fits. Finally I found a Volvo unit which seem ok.

According to RPI Engineering I need to re-jet the carbs now I've fitted the K&Ns, another Job!

I've temporarily fitted some breathers. RPI said the crankcase fumes need to be sucked out of the engine, rather than just breathing to air. So I have rigged up a pipe from each carb into a 'Y' peice and another pipe into the flame trap on the rocker cover.

I check the windscren measurement with DAX and 34" is correct, so I aligned the screen at this angle, but the bottom edge no longer fits the curve of the scuttle. I'll wait and get the vertical support before I do anymore to this.

Looks like I'll miss the Cobra Club meeting this Sunday as we are doing a big open air down town.

I connected the reversing light and made a small bracket to hold the speedo cable into the gearbox, this went really well. At least I've achived something today.

As I am using the Jag instruments I need to fit a Jag oil pressure sensor. The sensor has a 1/2" BSP thread and the Rover oil pump appears to be 1/2"-20 UNC. DAX are goint ot send me one of each adapter they have so I can try and find one that fits.

Well DAX tell me all the trim is ready, I need to get my credit card out now then! They are going to send a number of adaptors for the oil pressure sensor t see if any will fit my setup. I made it to the Cobra Meeting yesterday and had a bit of a chat with different people about how water gets in, in the rain, just like my Land Rover really :-)

I've done nothing to the car for 2 weeks now and I've just started pulling the kitchen about, this may set back the Cobra completion date!

28th May 2002

The seats and trim have arrived :-)

Sadly none of the adaptors DAX sent for the oil pressure sensor would do the job, so I finally plucked up courage and took off the oil pump. I took it round to my friends at MS Engineering in Paignton and Martin stuck a 1/2" UNC tap down the hole and the oil pressure sensor now fits. Still haven't work out how to connect the oil pressure switch electrics though!.

Note: The Rover oil pump does not self prime, so you have to pack it full of Vaseline before putting it back together.
