Introduction

The aim of this site is to share my experiences of building a DAX Cobra replica and hopefully to encourage others to give it a go.

In early 2000 I decided I needed something to keep me occupied, now that things have changed at home! It has always been a dream of mine to build a kit car and now seemed to be the right time. After speaking with my brother one day, he mentioned a friend of his Paul, had a Rover V8 engine and a Jaguar XJ6 that he was going to use to build a Cobra, but had never got round to building it.

Now Mr. Shelby's AC Cobra had always been high on my list of desirable cars to own, along with the E-Type and Healey 3000 and this seemed to be too good an offer to miss.

So after the exchange of a couple of hundred pounds I was the proud owner of an Rover 3.5 engine and 5-speed manual box and a rusted out XJ6 minus it's engine. The Jag was at his dad's farm so I arranged to go up there with the Land Rover and trailer and rip of the bits I needed and arrange for the local scrap yard to come and pick up the carrcus of the Jag.

A picture of my Land Rover 'Lilly', just so she doesn't feel left out!

Same 3.5 Ltr Rover V8 as in the Cobra.

The DAX manual warns you to be careful when removing the front springs! At the time I didn't have the manual and got the fright of my life when I undid the bolts and it all let rip.... BE WARNED!
